📰 Market Recap: A Quiet Week
Last week was relatively uneventful. The market dipped slightly, but really, there wasn’t much movement to speak of. We’re starting this week with the Dow down about 150 points, but there’s no major market-moving news expected until Friday.
🔍 What to Watch This Week
Here’s what’s on the radar:
🗓️ Friday – May Jobs Report
This is the big one. A strong or weak jobs number could influence interest rate expectations and market direction.🎙️ Fed Governors Speaking
Several Fed officials will speak before the end of the week. Pay attention to what they say about inflation and rate policy ahead of the upcoming Fed meeting.🌏 U.S.–China Trade Tensions
There are rumors that former President Donald Trump and the Chinese Premier may speak this week to discuss whether the current trade détente holds. Expect some political posturing, but I believe both sides have incentives to maintain stability.
📊 Market Outlook: Flat First Half?
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve predicted a flat market for the first half of 2025—and so far, that’s held up. As of now, major indices are essentially unchanged year-to-date. We’ll see how things shape up in June, and I’ll be back in early July with my second-half forecast.
🎉 On a Personal Note
Last week, I took a short trip to Las Vegas to celebrate my wife’s 60th birthday. We saw Kenny Chesney at the Sphere—and wow, what a venue! If you get the chance to see a show there, don’t miss it.
And no, I didn’t hit the Megabucks jackpot—otherwise, I wouldn’t be here writing this update!
